APPLICATIONS ARCHITECT

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for an innovative technology driven Applications Architect to join our growing Digital Solutions team!

Combining strong business acumen and project management expertise, you will deliver overall product analysis for our new and existing digital products including feature/capability analysis, functional and non-functional requirement analysis, market analysis and analysis of tools/frameworks. While working closely with the Digital Solutions team you will support the product development lifecycle to ensure that the application’s architecture is aligned with our goals, objectives and strategic initiatives.

As Applications Architect, you will provide solution architectural expertise to develop and maintain a digital technology product roadmap to manage the introduction of new features and capabilities, conduct strategic research and development, and assist in the translation of business strategy and requirements into specific solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design major aspects of the architecture of an application, including business intelligence, data analytics, user interface, middleware and content management
  • Work with the Director of Digital Solutions to conduct research and development for new opportunities, features, emerging technologies and products that will increase cost effectiveness and system flexibility
  • Document and analyze existing digital application architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives
  • Identify, assess and solve complex business problems in the digital space, where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
  • Provide technical leadership to Application Development team
  • Ensure application design standards are maintained and best practices are followed
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders as required to ensure application architecture is aligned with business requirements
  • Help document and communicate policy and standards for application and software programming
  • Facilitate client’s product visions by researching, conceiving, wireframing, sketching, prototyping, and mocking up user experiences for digital products
  • Assist in continuous improvement, business development and standardization initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 years’ experience managing diverse technology projects
  • 2 years’ experience in application/software design and development
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with Web technologies and frameworks like Laravel, Bootstrap, Node.js and Responsive Design
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in designing, developing and consuming SOAP and REST Web Services
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including strong presentation skills
  • Ability to think critically, gather and analyze information and collaborate with stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead complex projects and recommend solutions that will best meet functional and quality requirements
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge of leadership practices and principles
  • Knowledge of development on mobile platforms and best practices
  • Knowledge of ADA and WCAG 2.0 accessibility web development
  • Proven experience with object oriented analysis, design, and programming, unified modeling language, model driven architecture, design patterns, service oriented architecture, and business plan modeling
  • Demonstrated ability to develop complex models that meet architectural specifications, learn new technologies, assist in code reviews, and write documentation in approved formats
  • Experience in using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of Apple App Store and Google Play Store guidelines
  • Web Programming skills: Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP, HTML5, CSS, AJAX and JavaScript
  • Programming skills specifically C#/C++
  • Progressive technical knowledge and knowledge of best practices in Information Technology service delivery such as SDLC, PMBOK, and Agile Development
ADDITIONAL ASSETS :
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent is an asset
  • Knowledge of the gaming industry is an asset
  • Knowledge of Xamarin would be an asset
  • Experience with Public Cloud, especially Amazon Web Services (AWS) would be an asset
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset

Press Assistant

THE OPPORTUNITY:

This permanent full time position will start with an initial shift of Wednesday to Friday nights (7am-7pm) and will work on a rotating shift basis primarily nights. Working closely with the Press Operator, the Press Assistant provides support with operation of various presses and related equipment used in the production of lottery tickets. This role will work in a variety of different areas within the 140 and 1499 pressroom and on a number of different presses and equipment as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with safe and efficient operation of presses as assigned; includes loading and unloading rolls of paper or tickets from the press, inspect material & print quality, monitor ink supply and log production information
  • Ensure production targets are met and products printed are in accordance with game specifications, quality and PBL standards
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are clean and organized
  • Complete changeovers, minor preventative maintenance and routine repairs
  • Effectively communicate all relevant game-status details and equipment operation details to incoming shift
  • Adhere to all company’s established procedures and policies with respect to operation, health & safety, and security
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School or general education degree (GED)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer and mathematical skills
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for long periods
  • Ability to work accurately at a fast pace applying strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team orientated environment
  • Ability to organize, prioritize tasks and adapt to changing work areas
  • Technical printing courses and/or experience in a production environment would be considered an asset

Internal Auditor

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Reporting to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and working closely with the Executive Vice President, Finance, this is a unique opportunity to develop the internal audit function within Pollard Banknote. As the successful candidate, you will support Pollard Banknote in achieving its strategic objectives by implementing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management and internal controls.

Based in Winnipeg, you will be responsible for the development of the strategic and annual internal audit plans as well as performing detailed internal audit procedures throughout the Pollard Banknote group of companies. Working independently, you must be self-motivated and able to develop and direct the application of internal audit resources in a risk-based approach, providing independent assurance and consulting services. Critical thinking, combined with creative ability to provide recommendations and optimal improvements is a must. In addition, you must be able to work effectively with senior management of Pollard Banknote as well as have experience working directly with independent audit committees and directors.

As a motivated, hands-on individual with a demonstrated understanding of financial accounting and operating controls in a manufacturing organization, you will become a key driver in the evaluation of internal control certifications required under current and future securities regulations. You will bring a unique skill set in providing real life business focused solutions to the operations while at the same time supplying strong audit skills relating to internal controls. Involvement in special projects will also be a requirement of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary degree in commerce or related field complemented by a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) with a minimum of two years of post-qualifying experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Extensive recent experience in an internal or external audit environment
  • Experience in developing risk-based internal audit plans including an ability to identify priority focused audit risks and exposures
  • Exposure to and an understanding of ICFR responsibilities including recent amendments to related professional standards
  • Thorough knowledge of audit procedures including planning, techniques, test and sampling methods with commitment to perform and complete detailed audit testing and programs
  • Keen attention to detail and demonstrated capability to multi-task and effectively manage in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional people skills, comfortable operating at the senior level of the organization as well as on the manufacturing floor
  • Superior technical skills related to internal control principles and financial accounting
  • Strong aptitude for analytical analysis and an intellectual curiosity  
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, specifically related to completion and presentation of findings and report writing
  • Proficiency in Excel, database software and other IT processes
  • Ability to maintain current knowledge related to accounting, audit and securities legislation and new auditing techniques and practices
  • CFE, CISA or CIA designation, or working toward a designation preferred.
